We arrived back in Thailand from our brief trip to visit family and hit the ground running.  Since returning it has been pretty hectic, but that is the way we like it.  We were thankful to be able to spend time with our children and grandchildren, although it is certainly not long enough. Below we will give a synopsis of our ministry this year

Soul Winning: After returning I did a short seminar about soul winning for the members of our church.  The goal was to try to get folks more active in sharing their faith. In February we took eleven members door to door in the area to actively share the Gospel. They all did a great job.  A few good contacts were made as well.

Bible Institute: I am teaching two courses this term; Hebrew Poetry and Greek II. Both classes are progressing well with good attendance. We are trying to record the sessions but keep running into technical issues. As I mentioned in previous letters, we are making due with the system we have in place, but it is proving inadequate.  Initially, I wanted to buy a couple of Mac computers for our video and audio editing, but have since downgraded my wish list to one or two PCs. We are also in need of sound equipment so we can get a decent audio track. In total, we are still short about $2000 for computer equipment and about $500 short for audio and video equipment. If you can help, please designate your special offering as Frederick Computer when you send your gift to our Mission Board, BWMOM. You can also give (non- tax deductible) through our website www.thaimissions.org.

Ministry: I continue to teach a big load at our local universities. This is a great open door to reach young people who are away from home and the heavy Buddhist influence of relatives.

28056171 580335315652412 164841439062318791 nMisc: Our support is less than desirable at this point, so I am planning a 4-6 month furlough in 2019 to try to raise some more funds. We haven't actively tried to raise support since we came to the field in 2003. Needless to say, our spending power is not so powerful anymore. We appreciate the special Christmas offerings we received, our faithful supporters (many who have supported us since 2001), and of course, the many who pray regularly for us and Thailand. We are most grateful for all who share in this ministry.

Please pray for:  Mike’s students and fellow teachers for salvation.  Pray for salvation for a man who still comes regularly (more than two years). Hannah (our youngest daughter) for her college school bill and her university studies. Wisdom in ministry matters.  Results of outreach. The Britten family as they make their final preparation to go to England as our churches first missionary family, especially for their visa application, and for a young lady in our church who is struggling spiritually. (names are not included for privacy reasons; I hope you understand).

We are truly humbled to be a part of your mission’s program and look forward to many more years of service together. May the Lord bless you as you faithfully serve Him.

For Christ in Thailand,

December 2017 Prayer Letter

Dear praying partners,                                                                                                      December 2017

Merry Christmas!  We are blessed to be able to spend this Christmas in the states for a few weeks to be with our children and grandchildren. We will return to Thailand on January 9th after 7 weeks in the states.

23319176 532144293804848 4586731916074517408 n

Bible Institute: Upon returning to Thailand Bible Institute will be back in full swing.  I will be teaching Greek II and Hebrew Poetry.  I am thankful for the faithful students who are eager to learn.  The first two courses have been recorded and uploaded for the online Bible School.  We are still in need of funds to purchase three computers for video editing, recording, and for the students to use. We are making due with what we have, but really need new systems quickly. We additionally need fund to purchase sound equipment and microphones that we will use to mix and record the sound. If you can help, you can designate a special gift to us through our mission board or contact me directly via email,  phone, or Facebook (info is below).

Ministry: Our thirteenth-anniversary celebration was a great success. Our guest speaker did a great job of challenging everyone about being a light to the world. We are looking forward to many more fruitful years.  While I am away, I am pleased to report that the ministry is still on track. People are faithful and those teaching in my place are doing an excellent job.  On Christmas Eve, our church will have a Christmas celebration.  This is a good evangelistic opportunity for our church and we would ask you to pray for fruit from this outreach.

Misc. On a positive note, I have been asked to return to teach at our local university.  This has been a fruitful ministry and I am looking forward to extending it.  We currently have two students that are members of our church and we are looking forward to reaching many more.

Please pray for:  Mike’s students and fellow teachers for salvation.  Pray for salvation for a man who still comes regularly (more than two years). Hannah (our youngest daughter) for her college school bill and her university studies. Wisdom in ministry matters.  Results of outreach. The Britten family as they make their final preparation to go to England as our churches first missionary family, especially for their visa application.

We are truly humbled to be a part of your mission’s program and look forward to many more years of service together. May the Lord bless you as you faithfully serve Him.

June 2017 Prayer Letter

Dear praying partners,                                                                                                      July 2017

Greetings in the name of the Lord.  Thailand is a very difficult filed.  The people are remarkably resilient to the Word of God.  Buddhism has an unimaginable stanglehold on these people.  Although the results seem so small, the Lord is still saving souls!  Being able to preach and minister in Thailand is a result of each and every church and person that partners with us in ministry.  The Lord has been very gracious to provide us with such a great group of prayer and financial supporters.

18699640 455741221445156 381834057366591156 oFurlough:  Many of you may be wondering if and when we will be taking a furlough.  Since arriving in Thailand in 2003 we have not taken an extended furlough. The biggest reason for this is that we do not have anyone who can consistently watch the church while we are gone for an extended period.  We do plan to come to the USA for about 3 months in the summer of 2019.  We would be happy to report to churches during this time. I will say more about this as the time draws closer. We have not been ignoring our many supporters, but take our responsibility in our church plant seriously. Bible Institute: We just finished studying Eccelssiology and will progress ot Eschatology at the end of the month. The students are faithful and eager to continue their studies. We presently have three faithful students.  One student who had to drop because of a moral issue has been faithful in church and has a desire to return. Two other missionaries in Thailand have agreed to teach and video record their classes to help us with the goal of eventually establishing a high quality online Bible school for the edification of many, regardless of location. We are still short of equipment. We were able to buy one computer but are still in need of two more computers and three video recorders.  Additionally we are hoping to purchase some wireless lavalier microphones. I will be visiting my children and grandchildren in the USA this Christmas.  If anyone has used but still serviceable video recorders or wireless mic’s I would be happy to accept take them back in my luggage. Please let me know.

Ministry:  We continue to teach a weekly evangelistic Creation to Christ class.  Right now there is one lost man and one lost university student attending. Please pray that the Lord would save them.

Please pray for:  Mike’s student’s and fellow teachers for salvation.  Pray for salvation for a man who still comes regularly (more than a year). Hannah (our youngest daughter) for her college school bill and her university studies. Wisdom in ministry matters.  Results of outreach. The Britten family as they make their final preparation to go to England as our churches first missionary family.

Praise: The Bible school student who we asked for prayer last letter has repented and is desiring to continue studying. A renewed visa and work permit to continue our ministry for another year. We were able to purchase a “new” used car.  It is two years old.  We couldn’t raise enough to pay cash, so we had to finance about half of the purchase cost.  Thanks for all those that gave to help in this need.

We are truly humbled to be a part of your mission’s program and look forward to many more years of service together.

May God continue to bless you as you serve Him

For Christ in Thailand,

May 2017 Prayer Letter

Dear praying partners,                                                                                                      May 2017

Happy New Year from Thailand.  April is the traditional Thai New Year and we celebrated in conjunction with Resurrection Sunday this year for a truly memorable event.  It is a ceremony called Rote Nahm Dahm Hua.  It is where the younger people pay respects to the elders.  It is a memorable time for our Thai Christians and a great opportunity to incorporate Thai traditions into the traditions of our church.  Just in case you are wondering, no it isn’t a Buddhist ceremony.

Bible Institute: We have started our new term of our institute.  This term there are four students enrolled.  We will be learning about Ecclesiology.  We will start to video tape the lessons in the hopes of making our classes available to all Thai Bible students.  I have enlisted the help of some other missionaries in the country to teach classes in the hopes of having a first-class Bible College level curriculum available in the next few years.  This is not just my project but will be done in collaboration with many.  This is a need that has been lacking for many years.  Due to the vast distances between churches and the small congregations an internet based Bible College seems like the best course of action as opposed to the traditional campus where everyone comes to us.  Please pray for this endeavor.  We will need three more computers, three video recorders, and at least three microphones to get this project off the ground.  We are praying that we can find someone who is good with video editing to help put a quality project online.

Ministry:  We continue to reach-out to our community in many ways.  Primarily through tract distribution and by teaching at the local University.  Our student population has been growing slowly thanks to the faithfulness of those already attending.  It is such an encouragement to see University students concerned about their friends and bringing their friends to hear the Word of God.  We are also exploring the idea of having evangelistic outreach using apologetics and engaging with contemporary questions/issues.  This will be help in a local coffee shop and will be a very informal format.  It is not a replacement for church but a way to engage with members of the community by hopefully answering questions they may have.  Many are hesitant to go to church since they are “not Christian”.  Please pray for wisdom in how to proceed with this ministry.  It is discouraging to advertise, plan, and execute a plan only to have not one person show up. Lord willing, we will have our first encounter at the end of May with the start of the new school year.  All of our services are live streamed (only the preaching) on YouTube at New Life Baptist Church Chiang Mai https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCJVTbAI-Q3c3JGUsHlukRcA and are usually shared on facebook at www.facebook.com/newlifebaptisthangdong/ shortly after our services are completed.  If you are curious about our services or have a Thai friend that would be blessed by Biblical teaching, please tune in.

Family News: We are pleased to announce the birth of our fifth grandchild to our oldest daughter and her husband, Maget and Adam Jones.  It is tough being far away from family, but it is a great comfort to know that all our children are actively serving the Lord in various capacities and we have the opportunity to periodically visit.

Please pray for:  Mike’s student’s and fellow teachers for salvation.  Pray for salvation for a man who still comes regularly (more than a year). Hannah (our youngest daughter) for her college school bill and her university studies as well as a job this summer.  A Bible school student to repent and return to school.  Wisdom in ministry matters.  Results of outreach. We are truly humbled to be a part of your missions program and look forward to many more years of service together.

May God continue to bless you as you serve Him

March 2017 Prayer Letter

Dear praying partners,                                                                                                       March 2017

Greetings in the name of our wonderful Lord and Savior.  Let me begin by thanking each and every one of you for your faithful prayers and support.  It amazes me when I reflect on the wonderful team the Lord has assembled to plant churches in Thailand.

Missions Trip: Our churches missions trip to Cambodia was a great success.  We visited several churches and missionaries while in Cambodia.  It is a tough filed with many similarities to Thailand but with their own challenges.  The trip has had a positive impact on our church members.  We are thankful for those that gave to help offset the costs of the trip.  After returning from the trip, one young man expressed interest in starting back to Bible Institute to better prepare to serve the Lord in the future.  He seemed really burdened about the Cambodian people.  Who knows, maybe our church will have the privilege of sending out another missionary!

Ministry:  Mike continues to work at the university to make contacts with students and staff.  Recently a student has started attending faithfully and has since joined the church.  She brings a lost friend almost every week.  Lord willing, she will be saved soon.  The university ministry is a great outreach opportunity.  Like most ministries in Thailand, it is slow, but the Word is being sown and we will trust the Lord to give the increase in His time.    We were just notified that our co-workers are leaving the field in the next week.  This will be a huge blow for us as Mike will have to assume many more responsibilities.  It is also a setback from a fellowship aspect.  It is encouraging to have fellow laborers who can lift us up in times of discouragement.  It is an unfortunate reality that so many Independent Baptist missionaries labor alone.

Bible Institute:  Lord willing we will be starting classes again in April.  As of now, it is possible that we may have three students attending.  Please pray for the potential students and their future ministry.

Please pray for:  Mike’s student’s and fellow teachers for salvation.  There is a man who still comes regularly but has yet to be saved.  Please pray for his salvation as well.  Backslidden members to return or find a good church.  Hannah (our youngest daughter) for her college school bill and her university studies.  A Bible school student to repent and return to school.  Wisdom in ministry matters.  Results of outreach. Words cannot express our thanks for your faithfulness to support our ministry both spiritually and materially for the past fourteen plus years.

May God continue to bless you as you serve Him

Cambodia Missions Trip 2017

family logo-2

Dear prayer partners,

Tuesday the 24th we will be leaving for Cambodia to take many of our church members on a mission’s trip. We will be assisting two churches in Phnom Penh and a third church in Khampong Chom.

We are excited to expose our folks to missions and church life in another culture and context.  We will be passing out literature and DVD’s, sharing testimonies, and trying to encourage the Christians in Cambodia.

There will be 11 total going on the trip.  Please pray for us for safety and that God would use this trip to encourage the Cambodian churches and missionaries as well as encouraging our church in their walk with the Lord,

willingness to be a good testimony, and to surrender for the Lord’s use.  You can see pictures of our trip on our Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/thaimissions.org/  Let us know your praying for us.  Thanks, and God Bless.

January 2017 Prayer Letter

 family logo-2

Dear praying partners,                                                                                                       January 2017

Happy New Year to one and all.  On January 1st, we celebrated our arrival in Thailand 14 years ago.  A lot has changed since then.  All of our children have left and have gone or are currently in college.  Our four children have now morphed into four grand-children with one on the way.  Thankfully, we are still able to continue to serve the Lord here because of your faithful prayers and support and special offerings.  This ministry in Thailand is truly our ministry (each of you and us) for the Lord in reaching the Thai people with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Church Events: We have received many special offerings to help with the expenses of the Cambodia missions trip.  Everyone is fully funded, reservations have been made, passports purchased, and now we simply wait for January 24th to see how the Lord is going to work.  Interestingly, our churches faith promise program has been in the black for several months now.  What a blessing that this small church can have a part in world-wide evangelism as well.  You can follow our travels and events on our thaimissions.org facebook page.  Simple search for thaimissions.org and add as a follower.

Outreach:  We have started live-streaming our services to be a help to those who are in locations without a church and hopefully allow unsaved in our community to see a service and understand what we do.  Many Thai’s have never been in a church and therefore understand all church activities such as singing and preaching in a Buddhist context.  In most Buddhist temples, the monk will chant in the Pali language and no one understands what is being said.  The fact that a Christian message is from a Bible written in an understandable language and the preaching is done in an understandable language is often quite surprising.  If you are curious, or have Thai friends that would like to watch and hopefully be encouraged, we are on You-tube live, New Life Baptist Church Chiang Mai, Saturday nights 2130 EST Sunday School, 2245 EST Sunday worship service, and Wednesday morning at about 1930 for our Wednesday night service.  We tried another outreach program last month by offering a short Creation to Christ or “Get acquainted with what Christians believe” course on Sunday evenings.  Two lost men joined together to study as well as two newly saved ladies. One of the men dropped after the first week, but the second man diligently came, listened and has been faithfully attending church since.  Please pray for this man’s salvation in the near future.

Bible Institute:  Our Bible Institute suffered a set-back.  One of the students had to be suspended due to a moral issue.  So the school will be temporarily set-aside until we have more students.

Please pray for:  Mike’s student’s and fellow teachers for salvation.  There is a man who come regularly but has yet to be saved.  Please pray for his salvation as well.  Backslidden members to return or find a good church.  Hannah (our youngest daughter) for her college school bill and her university studies.  A Bible school student to repent and return to school.  Al Allshouse (our associate) for ability in learning Thai.  Wisdom in ministry matters.  Results of outreach.

May God continue to bless you as you serve Him

October 2016 Prayer Letter

Dear praying partners,                                                                                                                                                    October 2016

I am currently preaching through the book of Jeremiah for our Wednesday evening Bible studies.  It is an encouragement to know that the success of our ministry is not measured by numbers but by faithfulness.  May the Lord find us all faithful about the task He has called us to do.

June 2016 Prayer Letter

Dear praying partners,                                                                                                       June 2016

Praise the Lord that the rains have finally come and we have been getting lots of water.  We are still in a water crisis but it is looking better with every rain.  Like the weather, our ministry has come through a particularly dry patch but hopefully has turned the corner.

The young man who I mentioned in our last prayer letter has been faithfully attending services.  He was also baptized recently.  He won’t be able to attend Bible Institute because of his university schedule, but praise the Lord for a faithful young man with a desire to grow in the Lord.

Bible Institute:  We recently finished our third semester.  We have just started the first course of Systematic theology.  It is a joy to teach eager students the Word of God and the importance of proper doctrine.  Although our current students are all female, we praise the Lord for church members with a hunger for the Word of God.  These young ladies will be part of a strong foundation for our church for years to come.  Please continue to pray that the Lord will lead men to want to study God’s Word and have a desire for ministry.  Most churches in Thailand have very few if any men.  We do not want to be the ones who call anyone into ministry, but that the Lord would stir hearts.

Church Events: We recently had the privilege of travelling to another Northern province to celebrate the fourth anniversary of a sister church.  We took nine of our church members with us to help the missionary pass out tracts and just try to encourage the new members of this church.  All of our members that went paid their own expenses to be a blessing to this church, which is 5 hours from us.  What a blessing to see Christians with a heart to reach and bless others.  With that thought in mind, we are planning on a missions trip to Cambodia in January 2016.  Each of the people wanting to go much fund their own expenses.  It is estimated to cost about 10,000 Baht (about $280) each.  We will be helping a missionary in Cambodia to distribute literature, work on the church property and any other thing we can think of to be a blessing.  When considering the cost, it seems rather cheap, but our folks average about 10000-15000 a month. So that would be like an American raising $4000 or more to go on a missions trip.  A few folks that have found out about the trip have expressed an interest in helping.  If the Lord leads to help, we would use any donations to help the group (outside of my expenses).  We would ask that no one supports an individual, but helps the group.  All are sacrificing.  You can designate any special gifts to our mission board.

Missions Conference:  As far as missions is concerned, we recently had a faith promise missions conference.  What a blessing that our church was able to take on our second missionary.  We currently support Tom Britten, who is sent from our church to England and we now support a missionary from the Philippines who is church planting in Thailand.  Our church is small but has a huge heart for others and understands that we as church need to reach out.  It is humbling to serve such a group of believers.

Truck:  We praise the Lord for about $1500 that churches and people have given for us to use toward another vehicle.  We are still need about $3500 in order to have an appropriate down payment.  If anyone would like to donate to this project you can send funds to BWMOM and designate them as Frederick Vehicle.  We are so thankful for those who have already given.

Please prayer for:  Mike’s student’s and fellow teachers for salvation.  Backslidden members to return or find a good church.  Hannah (our youngest daughter) for her college school bill and her university studies.  Bible school students and my self (teaching them clearly).  Wisdom in ministry matters.  Results of outreach. Fundraising for Cambodia missions trip.

May God continue to bless you as you serve Him

For Christ in Thailand,

June 2014 Update

 June 2014

Our four month furlough has finally ended and we arrived safely back in Thailand on June 22nd.  It was a blessing to visit many of our supporting churches and report on what the Lord has been doing in Thailand.  We were very encouraged by the reception we received from so many; it was truly humbling.

Now that we are back in Thailand we are trying to hit the ground running.  We are hoping to adjust our ministry slightly to have a greater impact and prepare our church for a future without a missionary.  We will expand our outreach to include showing Christian movies in various neighborhoods and at the University on weekend nights.  There are several good films that have been dubbed into Thai and there are even a few local productions that we can show.  We are in the process of making contacts now for this exciting new aspect to our ministry.  It may seem like a small need, but if anyone would like to give for the purchase of snacks that we could provide during the showing, it would be greatly appreciated.  We estimate about $30 per showing or about $90 per week.  In addition to this new ministry we are already making plans for a Christmas carnival at several locations in December.  We are hoping to be able to do 3-5 booths with games and prizes along with Christian literature and a salvation message.  Again, we could use help in this endeavor.  We are planning on about $500 for materials and prizes for this activity.

Lord willing we will return to our previous locations to teach English to teachers and University students in a few weeks. We made some great contacts prior to leaving for the states, so we are anxious to follow-up on those as soon as possible.  As I mentioned to many churches, the lack of faithful men is a real concern for us.  I had a meeting with the men that attend (fairly regularly) and challenged them concerning faithfulness.  We will be meeting again regularly to try to encourage them to understand their responsibility.

Please pray for Nuey, Pom, No, Aom, Ying, and Mike’s students for salvation.  Pray for Dtom and kwanchai for faithfulness.  Pray for Dtong and Aek concerning the Lord’s direction in their lives. Also please pray for open doors concerning the showing of movies in various neighborhoods.  Lastly, please pray for my (Mike’s) shoulder.  I have been diagnosed with frozen shoulder and it is very painful and limiting.

We pray God’s blessing as you serve.

For Christ in Thailand,

Mike & Francis Frederick
