Frederick November 2019 Ministry Update

November 2019

Dear praying partners,

Visas: Praise the Lord that Frances was able to get her visa and then got an extension with little difficulty. Unfortunately, we have to start our annual process again in January for our April renewal.

Ministry in Thailand: Mike continues to teach at the University. This ministry is an excellent open-door to reach both Thai students as well as faculty. We currently only have one student who is a member of the church, but we are praying that more will become interested. With the yearly incoming freshman class, there are always new people to reach. Frances is also teaching English to the wife of one of our Bible students. This is an excellent discipleship time in addition to teaching English. She is very faithful but still relatively young.

Mission Board: Since we have switched to a clearinghouse, you should be aware that any correspondence or packages should be sent to our field address at Box 47 Hang Dong Post, Chiang Mai 50230 Thailand, or to our home church: Grace Baptist Church, 2745 MLK Blvd. Panama City, FL 32405.

Church Anniversary: We celebrated the 15th anniversary of New Life Baptist Church with a family camp, followed by a revival. The camp was excellent. Dtom, our Bible student who will be graduating next year, took responsibility for the whole camp, from budgeting, planning, activities, etc. and did an excellent job with very little input. This is only one step in progressing to our goal of a local indigenous church. The camp highlight was the campfire testimony time. Many confessed sins, asked for prayer, and praised the Lord for His goodness. It was also exciting to see the daughter of one of our members get baptized. The revival meeting was three days. Attendance was sparse on Friday and Saturday, but there was a good turnout on Sunday night with 24 visitors. We really need prayer for wisdom in doing followup with the visitors.

Bible Institute: Mike continues to teach classes regularly. We will be ready for our next graduation in May (assuming everything goes as scheduled). We will have one graduate, Dtom. We are recording all of the classes and continue to place them online in an online learning environment. The process has been slow with a steep learning curve, but it seems we finally have a workable process. Last month, our first Bible student form another province contacted us about studying online. This is exciting as it is precisely what we hope to be able to accomplish; reaching Thai's with a high-quality Bible education while they continue to serve in their local churches. As we get more courses finished, we will start to advertise them throughout the country via Facebook.

Prayer Requests. Salvation: A man in our church who continues to attend faithfully (father of the girl who got saved). Pray for Mike's students and fellow teachers at University. Pray for followup with the guests that attended the revival services. Faithfulness: Pray for the Bible students to continue steadfast in their studies. Also, pray for a lady in our church getting married in December. Please also pray for wisdom and faithfulness while we serve the Lord. The longer we serve the Lord, the more we understand how weak we are. Thankfully the Lod is faithful and strengthens us.

May the Lord bless you richly as you continue to serve Him.

Frederick September 2019 Prayer Letter

September 2019

Dear praying partners,

Visas: Frances had some visa issues in that they denied her visa when we applied in the USA. She consequently had to come to Thailand as a tourist and then leave the country to apply for another visa. After several issues, she was finally given a visa. Immigration laws have been changing rapidly in Thailand.  We can still get visas to stay, but it is becoming increasingly more difficult.

Ministry in Thailand:  We hit the ground running after returning from furlough. After only three days back, Mike returned to teaching at University and started teaching at the Bible Institute again. The work here is very slow but we have had some visitors attend services. We continue to encourage our church family to actively witness to friends and neighbors as well as distribute literature. Our live stream has been gaining traction and we have several consistent viewers from other provinces in Thailand.

Mission Board: We have completed the transition to the Central Missionary Clearinghouse as of the end of July. Thanks for your understanding and patience in this time of transition. If you have any questions concerning how to send support, please contact me via email ASAP.

Coming Events: This year marks our church’s 15th anniversary. Our home pastor will be coming to speak at our annual family camp as well as speak at our anniversary banquet. We will have camp October 11-14, followed immediately by a revival service and our anniversary banquet on October 18-20. Plans are being firmed up and guests are being invited. Would you please pray for the Lord to do a work in our church both among the saved and especially the unsaved. We are starting to make our Christmas outreach plans as well. We are going to try to do caroling at a local shopping mall. We are not very musically inclined but this is an opportunity that is hard to pass up. Christmas is always a busy time of outreach. We encourage all of our members to do some sort of activity in their home during the Christmas season since most Thai’s don’t want to come to a church.

Great News: The daughter of one of our members got saved recently. She has been struggling with salvation for a while and finally got things settled.  She will be getting baptized at camp. Her salvation has been a real encouragement to Frances and the ladies. She has been training to work in our children’s ministry. It is easy to get discouraged in a small church with only a few children but now they can see the fruit of faithful service.

Prayer Requests.  Salvation: A man in our church who continues to attend faithfully (father of the girl who got saved). Pray for Mike’s students and fellow teachers at the university. Pray for the guests invited to the revival services and anniversary banquet. Faithfulness: Pray for the Bible students to continue steadfast in their studies. Also, pray for a lady in our church getting married in November.

May the Lord bless you richly as you continue to serve Him.

For Christ in Thailand,

Mike & Francis Frederick

May 2019 Prayer Letter

May 2019

Dear praying partners,

It is with great joy that I can announce that our youngest daughter has graduated from college!  She has a Bachelor of Arts in Communication and has already found a full-time job in the Greenville area.  We will return to Thailand as true empty nesters.

Family: While visiting churches, many ask about our family so here is a short update.  Our oldest daughter is married to an Air Force Mechanic and is stationed, along with her three daughters in Sumter, SC.  They attend a great church there and are active in its ministries.  Our second son is married with two children and is an electrician in the Air Force and is currently stationed in Little Rock AFB, Arkansas.  He and his family are also active in a local church in Little Rock. Our third child is a graphic designer for a non-profit organization in Greenville, SC.  He is an active member in a local church currently being revitalized. Our youngest daughter just graduated and is employed as an executive assistant in Greenville.  She is also a part of a local church being revitalized. We (Mike and Frances) are very proud of our children, and although we miss seeing them often, are happy that they are all doing well and are all actively serving the Lord in various capacities.

Ministry: We have an important announcement concerning our ministry.  We are changing how we handle our support and will be moving to Central Missionary Clearinghouse effective immediately.  This move was for practical reasons and is not doctrinal at all. We feel the time to make this change for the long term benefit of our ministry and to reduce our overhead expenses. Attached to this prayer letter is a letter from my home pastor as well as the form required the first time support is directed to the clearinghouse. I (or my pastor) will be happy to answer any specific questions.  In April, I (Mike) had to return to Thailand for a month to renew my visa as well as teach two modular classes for Bible Institute. Dtom, a student in the institute, is watching the church while we are in the USA until July and is doing a great job. He is learning a lot while he is flying solo.  We are hoping to have our next graduation in 2020 with one graduate. The church is doing well and everyone is working together nicely during our absence.  It is during times of furlough that one can see how strong the foundation of the church is. This past week two prospects have contacted me about studying the Bible online!  Our vision of doing an online Bible school is starting.  Baby steps, but it is a start.

FurloughWe are in the states until mid-July. Every weekend has been booked with meetings to report to our wonderful supporters. It is a privilege to be able to represent you in the country of Thailand. Our ministry is completely reliant on your generosity and prayers.

Please pray for: Traveling mercies, Salvation for a man who still comes regularly (3 ½  years). Hannah, as she makes the transition from school to “real life”. Wisdom in ministry matters.  Results of outreach and for a young lady in our church who continues to struggle spiritually but is doing better. (names are not included for privacy reasons; I hope you understand). Online Bible School.

In closing, Frances and I want to express our sincerest thanks for your partnership in our ministry Your faithful prayers and financial support allow the Thai people to hear the Gospel that sets men free. Thailand is a difficult field, but the Lord is working and by His grace, we will continue to sow the seeds of the Gospel so that one day there might be a great harvest in Thailand.

For Christ in Thailand,

Mike & Francis Frederick

December 2018 Prayer Letter

Dec 2018

Dear praying partners,

This will be our last prayer letter of 2018, so we want to wish everyone Merry Christmas.

Ministry: This month we celebrate the 14th year of New Life Baptist Church. The church is small but well-grounded and very faithful. It is a great joy to see almost 100% of our church members participate in evangelistic outreach and fellowship activities. The lack of fruit is not due to a lack of effort. To give perspective, the average church in Thailand is approximately 16 individuals (mostly women and children). Almost 60% of churches (all denominations) have no pastor. It sometimes seems like an impossible task, but we know that the Lord loves the Thai people and desires to see them saved. We are called to be faithful, and by God's grace, we will do that. English classes at the University have taken an unexpected twist as I now teach 30 Chinese exchange students. We need to find a way to communicate the Gospel to them. In a recent class, I discovered that almost all of them had no idea what a church was; never heard of it before.

   Module class

Bible Institute. We recently completed a block calls in Apologetics, taught by a Thai pastor. He challenged the students and was a great example of how the Lord can use a national for His glory. There were several new students who are curious about the Bible School.  Lord willing, they will apply to study further. In December a fellow missionary will come to teach another block class, "Old Testament Historical Books." It is a blessing to see other national pastors and missionaries get involved in training nationals for the work of the Lord.

Furlough: We have purchased our tickets and will arrive in the states in February with a return to Thailand in July.  If you would like us to stop by to give an update, we still have a few openings, but please notify me as soon as possible via email at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. ">This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. .

Please pray for: Salvation for a man who still comes regularly (three years this Christmas). Hannah (our youngest daughter) for her college school bill and her university studies (she finishes in December). Wisdom in ministry matters.  Results of outreach and for a young lady in our church who continues to struggle spiritually but is doing better. (names are not included for privacy reasons; I hope you understand).

In closing, Frances and I want to express our sincerest thanks for your partnership in our ministry.  It is not easy to support a ministry that you have never seen.  The Lord is working and by His grace, we will continue to sow the seeds of the Gospel so that one day there might be a great harvest in Thailand.

For Christ in Thailand,

September 2018 Prayer Letter

Aug 2018

Dear praying partners,

The Lord is always good, always!  It is a great privilege to serve the Lord whether it be Thailand or any other place.

Ministry:After almost one year of praying for the salvation of a young lady (university student), she was finally saved recently.  It was through the faithful witness of one of the university students that she learned of the Lord. Someone asked recently, what is the best way to witness to the Thai people?  My initial answer was, I don’t know.  But after some reflection, I guess it would have to be, consistency and faithfulness.  A fairly recent study of Thai Christians in Thailand showed that the average Christian isn’t saved until 10 or more years after first hearing the Gospel. I am not confident in the complete validity of the study, but it is something to consider.

Missions:  Tom, our missionary to England, left in May for England and we are happy to report that his family has finally been issued visas and will be joining him soon.  It is a real loss to our church, but the Lord blesses a church involved in missions, and by God's grace we hope to lead New Life Baptist Church to be more involved every year.  We currently support two missionaries and hope to support more in the near future.  Dtom Leading Music

Bible Institute.  This term I am continuing the Greek series with Greek IV while continuing with Romans and Corinthians.  I want to praise the Lord for the generous gifts to provide for the equipment needed for our online Bible School.  We have received enough to purchase equipment.  We can get back to the task of editing the videos we have in the cue as well as produce better materials going forward. You can see the genesis of the school at chiwitmai.org.  or take a look at the videos I am preparing on YouTube https://youtu.be/E-izRYNyhYw or search for New Life for Thailand Foundation THEO413. Lord willing a fellow missionary who lives nearby will be helping to teach some classes as well.  Please pray earnestly for this project as I feel it could be a vital tool in helping pastors develop their skills as well as prepare pastors in training while they continue to serve at their local church.

Furlough: We are tentatively returning to the USA for another short trip for our youngest daughters graduation.  Lord willing we will be in the states from April until July 2019.  If you would like us to stop by to give an update, please notify me as soon as possible via email at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. ">This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. .

Please pray for:  Pray for the spiritual growth and faithfulness of the young lady recently saved. Mike’s students and fellow teachers for salvation.  Pray for salvation for a man who still comes regularly (more than two years). Hannah (our youngest daughter) for her college school bill and her university studies. Wisdom in ministry matters.  Results of outreach and for a young lady in our church who is really struggling spiritually. (names are not included for privacy reasons; I hope you understand).

In closing, I need to express my sincere thanks for your partnership with our ministry.  We can only do this ministry as you yield yourself to the Lord. Please continue to pray earnestly for the spiritual needs of this dark land.  May the Lord bless you as you faithfully serve Him.

For Christ in Thailand,

June 2018 Prayer Letter

Dear praying partners,                                                                                                      June 2018

Greetings from the field.  This edition of our prayer letter has both good and not so good news. I’ll begin with the good news.

Ministry: Our church has been very steady in attendance and giving and service. We are not a large church by any stretch of the imagination, but we are about average for a typical Thai church. Those that are studying in Bible Institute are shouldering more and more responsibility.  The young man in Bible school is still fairly young but he is eager to learn and help in many different capacities. During our church-wide soul winning almost all of the membership has been attending.  Overall the church is healthy and eager to serve. So what is the not so good news?

Missions:  After many setbacks and difficulties, Tom, our missionary sent to Britain, finally left for the field.  He is in England and is already diligently working to revive a church plant that has all but died. Please pray for Thomas Britten and his family especially since his family is still in Thailand awaiting their visas.  It has been a long and difficult road to getting Tom to the field and we praise the Lord for allowing it to come together. I stand amazed that God would allow our church to participate in the great commission when we are still trying to become self-sustaining ourselves. Our church continues to give faithfully to missions through faith promise giving.

Outreach Our church continues to be active in outreach ministry.  We try to involve the membership of New Life Baptist in order to make soul winning and evangelism a normal part of our church life as opposed to an activity for the “professionals”.   Recently we have distributed literature and checked blood pressure in local markets as well as running Facebook ads and doing a live question and answer stream every week.  We attempt to tackle some of the questions that most Thai people have about Christianity in these short segments. We have had a good number of viewers but not a lot of interaction. You can view the segments on our Facebook page facebook.com/newlifebaptisthangdong/  Of course they are in Thai, but it’ll give you an idea of how we are doing things and you can also see current pictures and events form our church.

Bible Institute.  This term we are teaching Greek III and Romans/Corinthians.  We have two students taking the Greek series and four students enrolled in the Romans/Corinthians course. We are recording the sessions but unfortunately, our computer that we used for editing has died. We are keeping the videos while waiting for the opportunity to buy another computer. We are continuing to try to raise funds to update and replace our equipment.  If you felt led to give you can designate gifts to Frederick Computer or add a note with your gift. You can see the school at chiwitmai.org.  or take a look at the videos I am preparing on youtube https://youtu.be/E-izRYNyhYw or search for New Life for Thailand Foundation THEO413.

Please pray for:  Mike’s students and fellow teachers for salvation.

We do not take you for granted and appreciate the honor you have bestowed on us by allowing us to represent you in Thailand.  Please pray earnestly for the spiritual needs of this dark land.  May the Lord bless you as you faithfully serve Him.

For Christ in Thailand,

Mike & Francis Frederick

March 2018

Dear praying partners,                                                                                                      March 2018

28166623 583737811978829 5921229311667807522 n

We arrived back in Thailand from our brief trip to visit family and hit the ground running.  Since returning it has been pretty hectic, but that is the way we like it.  We were thankful to be able to spend time with our children and grandchildren, although it is certainly not long enough. Below we will give a synopsis of our ministry this year

Soul Winning: After returning I did a short seminar about soul winning for the members of our church.  The goal was to try to get folks more active in sharing their faith. In February we took eleven members door to door in the area to actively share the Gospel. They all did a great job.  A few good contacts were made as well.

Bible Institute: I am teaching two courses this term; Hebrew Poetry and Greek II. Both classes are progressing well with good attendance. We are trying to record the sessions but keep running into technical issues. As I mentioned in previous letters, we are making due with the system we have in place, but it is proving inadequate.  Initially, I wanted to buy a couple of Mac computers for our video and audio editing, but have since downgraded my wish list to one or two PCs. We are also in need of sound equipment so we can get a decent audio track. In total, we are still short about $2000 for computer equipment and about $500 short for audio and video equipment. If you can help, please designate your special offering as Frederick Computer when you send your gift to our Mission Board, BWMOM. You can also give (non- tax deductible) through our website www.thaimissions.org.

Ministry: I continue to teach a big load at our local universities. This is a great open door to reach young people who are away from home and the heavy Buddhist influence of relatives.

28056171 580335315652412 164841439062318791 nMisc: Our support is less than desirable at this point, so I am planning a 4-6 month furlough in 2019 to try to raise some more funds. We haven't actively tried to raise support since we came to the field in 2003. Needless to say, our spending power is not so powerful anymore. We appreciate the special Christmas offerings we received, our faithful supporters (many who have supported us since 2001), and of course, the many who pray regularly for us and Thailand. We are most grateful for all who share in this ministry.

Please pray for:  Mike’s students and fellow teachers for salvation.  Pray for salvation for a man who still comes regularly (more than two years). Hannah (our youngest daughter) for her college school bill and her university studies. Wisdom in ministry matters.  Results of outreach. The Britten family as they make their final preparation to go to England as our churches first missionary family, especially for their visa application, and for a young lady in our church who is struggling spiritually. (names are not included for privacy reasons; I hope you understand).

We are truly humbled to be a part of your mission’s program and look forward to many more years of service together. May the Lord bless you as you faithfully serve Him.

For Christ in Thailand,

December 2017 Prayer Letter

Dear praying partners,                                                                                                      December 2017

Merry Christmas!  We are blessed to be able to spend this Christmas in the states for a few weeks to be with our children and grandchildren. We will return to Thailand on January 9th after 7 weeks in the states.

23319176 532144293804848 4586731916074517408 n

Bible Institute: Upon returning to Thailand Bible Institute will be back in full swing.  I will be teaching Greek II and Hebrew Poetry.  I am thankful for the faithful students who are eager to learn.  The first two courses have been recorded and uploaded for the online Bible School.  We are still in need of funds to purchase three computers for video editing, recording, and for the students to use. We are making due with what we have, but really need new systems quickly. We additionally need fund to purchase sound equipment and microphones that we will use to mix and record the sound. If you can help, you can designate a special gift to us through our mission board or contact me directly via email,  phone, or Facebook (info is below).

Ministry: Our thirteenth-anniversary celebration was a great success. Our guest speaker did a great job of challenging everyone about being a light to the world. We are looking forward to many more fruitful years.  While I am away, I am pleased to report that the ministry is still on track. People are faithful and those teaching in my place are doing an excellent job.  On Christmas Eve, our church will have a Christmas celebration.  This is a good evangelistic opportunity for our church and we would ask you to pray for fruit from this outreach.

Misc. On a positive note, I have been asked to return to teach at our local university.  This has been a fruitful ministry and I am looking forward to extending it.  We currently have two students that are members of our church and we are looking forward to reaching many more.

Please pray for:  Mike’s students and fellow teachers for salvation.  Pray for salvation for a man who still comes regularly (more than two years). Hannah (our youngest daughter) for her college school bill and her university studies. Wisdom in ministry matters.  Results of outreach. The Britten family as they make their final preparation to go to England as our churches first missionary family, especially for their visa application.

We are truly humbled to be a part of your mission’s program and look forward to many more years of service together. May the Lord bless you as you faithfully serve Him.

June 2017 Prayer Letter

Dear praying partners,                                                                                                      July 2017

Greetings in the name of the Lord.  Thailand is a very difficult filed.  The people are remarkably resilient to the Word of God.  Buddhism has an unimaginable stanglehold on these people.  Although the results seem so small, the Lord is still saving souls!  Being able to preach and minister in Thailand is a result of each and every church and person that partners with us in ministry.  The Lord has been very gracious to provide us with such a great group of prayer and financial supporters.

18699640 455741221445156 381834057366591156 oFurlough:  Many of you may be wondering if and when we will be taking a furlough.  Since arriving in Thailand in 2003 we have not taken an extended furlough. The biggest reason for this is that we do not have anyone who can consistently watch the church while we are gone for an extended period.  We do plan to come to the USA for about 3 months in the summer of 2019.  We would be happy to report to churches during this time. I will say more about this as the time draws closer. We have not been ignoring our many supporters, but take our responsibility in our church plant seriously. Bible Institute: We just finished studying Eccelssiology and will progress ot Eschatology at the end of the month. The students are faithful and eager to continue their studies. We presently have three faithful students.  One student who had to drop because of a moral issue has been faithful in church and has a desire to return. Two other missionaries in Thailand have agreed to teach and video record their classes to help us with the goal of eventually establishing a high quality online Bible school for the edification of many, regardless of location. We are still short of equipment. We were able to buy one computer but are still in need of two more computers and three video recorders.  Additionally we are hoping to purchase some wireless lavalier microphones. I will be visiting my children and grandchildren in the USA this Christmas.  If anyone has used but still serviceable video recorders or wireless mic’s I would be happy to accept take them back in my luggage. Please let me know.

Ministry:  We continue to teach a weekly evangelistic Creation to Christ class.  Right now there is one lost man and one lost university student attending. Please pray that the Lord would save them.

Please pray for:  Mike’s student’s and fellow teachers for salvation.  Pray for salvation for a man who still comes regularly (more than a year). Hannah (our youngest daughter) for her college school bill and her university studies. Wisdom in ministry matters.  Results of outreach. The Britten family as they make their final preparation to go to England as our churches first missionary family.

Praise: The Bible school student who we asked for prayer last letter has repented and is desiring to continue studying. A renewed visa and work permit to continue our ministry for another year. We were able to purchase a “new” used car.  It is two years old.  We couldn’t raise enough to pay cash, so we had to finance about half of the purchase cost.  Thanks for all those that gave to help in this need.

We are truly humbled to be a part of your mission’s program and look forward to many more years of service together.

May God continue to bless you as you serve Him

May 2017 Prayer Letter

Dear praying partners,                                                                                                      May 2017

Happy New Year from Thailand.  April is the traditional Thai New Year and we celebrated in conjunction with Resurrection Sunday this year for a truly memorable event.  It is a ceremony called Rote Nahm Dahm Hua.  It is where the younger people pay respects to the elders.  It is a memorable time for our Thai Christians and a great opportunity to incorporate Thai traditions into the traditions of our church.  Just in case you are wondering, no it isn’t a Buddhist ceremony.

Bible Institute: We have started our new term of our institute.  This term there are four students enrolled.  We will be learning about Ecclesiology.  We will start to video tape the lessons in the hopes of making our classes available to all Thai Bible students.  I have enlisted the help of some other missionaries in the country to teach classes in the hopes of having a first-class Bible College level curriculum available in the next few years.  This is not just my project but will be done in collaboration with many.  This is a need that has been lacking for many years.  Due to the vast distances between churches and the small congregations an internet based Bible College seems like the best course of action as opposed to the traditional campus where everyone comes to us.  Please pray for this endeavor.  We will need three more computers, three video recorders, and at least three microphones to get this project off the ground.  We are praying that we can find someone who is good with video editing to help put a quality project online.

Ministry:  We continue to reach-out to our community in many ways.  Primarily through tract distribution and by teaching at the local University.  Our student population has been growing slowly thanks to the faithfulness of those already attending.  It is such an encouragement to see University students concerned about their friends and bringing their friends to hear the Word of God.  We are also exploring the idea of having evangelistic outreach using apologetics and engaging with contemporary questions/issues.  This will be help in a local coffee shop and will be a very informal format.  It is not a replacement for church but a way to engage with members of the community by hopefully answering questions they may have.  Many are hesitant to go to church since they are “not Christian”.  Please pray for wisdom in how to proceed with this ministry.  It is discouraging to advertise, plan, and execute a plan only to have not one person show up. Lord willing, we will have our first encounter at the end of May with the start of the new school year.  All of our services are live streamed (only the preaching) on YouTube at New Life Baptist Church Chiang Mai https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCJVTbAI-Q3c3JGUsHlukRcA and are usually shared on facebook at www.facebook.com/newlifebaptisthangdong/ shortly after our services are completed.  If you are curious about our services or have a Thai friend that would be blessed by Biblical teaching, please tune in.

Family News: We are pleased to announce the birth of our fifth grandchild to our oldest daughter and her husband, Maget and Adam Jones.  It is tough being far away from family, but it is a great comfort to know that all our children are actively serving the Lord in various capacities and we have the opportunity to periodically visit.

Please pray for:  Mike’s student’s and fellow teachers for salvation.  Pray for salvation for a man who still comes regularly (more than a year). Hannah (our youngest daughter) for her college school bill and her university studies as well as a job this summer.  A Bible school student to repent and return to school.  Wisdom in ministry matters.  Results of outreach. We are truly humbled to be a part of your missions program and look forward to many more years of service together.

May God continue to bless you as you serve Him

For Christ in Thailand,
